I could be walking down the street, talking to a friend or watching a movie and an idea will pop into my head. I become inspired. I write it down, construct a query and send it off. If I get the go ahead from an editor, I begin working on the piece. But first, I start with some tools like a pen, a few sheets of paper and my brain. I spend time brainstorming and then I set up the interviews.

I take all of the information I've collected including the interviews I've transcribed and highlight the most important parts. Then I start the first draft.
